As a graduate physiotherapy student from King’s College London, achieving a merit grade (having previously gained a 2:1 Honors degree in Sports Science and Physiology from the University of Leeds), I have found my years in further education extremely interesting and enjoyable. I’ve had the opportunity to develop my clinical reasoning, communication skills, and professionalism, while furthering my knowledge of current practice and various medical presentations. I am a member of the CSP and registered with the HCPC. Since qualifying I have worked at Kingston Hospital, gaining experience in MSK outpatients, ITU, Surgery, Elderly Medicine, Paediatrics and On Call Emergency Respiratory. My responsibilities included: - Independent management of a patient caseload, including prioritisation of patients and management of non-clinical responsibilities. - Team working (Working with a variety of other healthcare professionals to provide efficient treatment and discharge) - Patient facing experience (Rapport building, conflict resolution and effective communication broaching sensitive topics. - Taking part in regular inservice training and personal skills development Further to this I work privately for a local rugby team, allowing me to gain experience in pitchside trauma and management. I particularly enjoy this due to the challenge of treating higher functioning patients and making their treatment tailored to their individual sporting goals. I also enjoy working within a multi-disciplinary team and enjoy the camaraderie of overcoming potential obstacles through helping each other. This is a value that I have held important since childhood, having been part of many sports teams throughout school and holding two different sports committee positions during my undergraduate degree. I’ve found my experiences has given me the confidence to voice my opinion when appropriate, but also accept help and advice when needed to help the team perform to the best of their ability.

After graduating from the University of Birmingham with a First Class Honours degree, I began a successful career working within the NHS. I have completed 6 month rotations in MSK, respiratory and stroke and 3 month rotations in Rheumatology Outpatient department including hydrotherapy and emergency medicine which has allowed my development as a physiotherapist to flourish and my confidence in my own ability to grow. I am keen to continue to develop my knowledge in more complex and multi-patholgy conditions particularly in the Outpatient setting.  I believe that my experience will enable to me to bring initiative, people management skills from supporting assistants and a highly responsible approach to my work. I will bring enthusiasm and energy, which will enable me to motivate other members of the team to increase the efficiency of the workforce. Throughout my rotations I have gained a wide range of experience in various clinical settings, supplemented by my experiences gained as a student. I have been exposed to a wide range of conditions and situations including simple and complex MSK conditions, complex multi-pathology ITU patients, lone-working on-call scenarios, paediatric patients, complex multi-factorial discharges and multiple MDT meetings, rehab meetings and patient strategy meetings. Treating patients such as these requires complete confidentiality, appropriate escalation and support from more senior team members, keeping up to date with current evidence based practice, the ability to manage a varied and full caseload and an awareness of potential contraindications, health and safety hazards which may arise during treatment in accordance with the Codes of Professional Conduct as laid out by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. My experience in these areas and with these conditions has allowed me to develop my assessment and treatment skills within the MSK, respiratory and neurological specialities giving me a wide range of treatment techniques for a wide range of conditions and am looking to continue to develop these skills, particularly within the MSK outpatient setting. In addition to my post graduate experience I am also a qualified Sports Massage Therapist, where I have utilised these skills within my MSK and Rheumatology rotations. Furthermore, I will be volunteering at the London Marathon and Hackney Half Marathon as a Sports Massage Therapist to further hone my soft tissue skills. I am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Health and Care Professions Council. I have been approved registration with the New Zealand board of Physiotherapists and intend to apply for my Annual Practising Certificate for the year 2019/2020. Throughout my rotations and degree I have maintained and updated my continual professional development (CPD) folder, including information governance, in-service training supplemented this with articles and further reading, attending evening lectures by Midlands Orthopaedic and the CSP branch and completing and keeping up to date with mandatory training. I will continue to update my CPD folder, not only as a requirement which fulfils the Standards of Conduct of the Health and Care Professions Council but also as a result of my desire to learn and continually improve my practice.
Location Preference: I am looking for work in the South Island of New Zealand and in the Melbourne region.

My name is Sarah Whitley. I am a fully qualified physiotherapist who graduated from an English university with almost 4 years of experience of working across outpatient, rehabilitation, acute hospital and community settings. I have completed rotations in musculoskeletal outpatients (3 rotations and includes fracture clinic), gym, orthopaedics (electives, trauma, rehabilitation and day case surgery), elderly community, respiratory, elderly medical, stroke rehabilitation and community neurology (total 10 rotations). I have experience in rugby and private settings as well. I have also worked in injury management for insurance claims (mainly whiplash injuries) and I am currently in a managerial position. However I am seeking to re- enter direct clinical practice as a physiotherapist on a part time/ casual basis. I have worked with a very broad range of clients including paediatric, adolescent, adults and geriatrics whom all have individual needs and have very different circumstances. I am highly skilled in clinical assessments and a broad range of treatment modalities including exercise prescription (design and execution), muscle re-education, massage, mobilisations and other manual techniques as well as taping, heat, ice and electrical modalities to help restore function, prevent or delay any deterioration (appropriate for different MSK, orthopaedic, neurological, respiratory and medical conditions). I am able to look at clients with a holistic approach and meet the special needs of each client with rehabilitation, goal setting and returning to work and sport. I have been constantly praised on my understanding, respect and professional nature towards clients, which has enabled a very trusting rapport to be built up between myself and individual clients all with very different circumstances. I have extensive experience in managing my own case load of patients on outpatient and ward settings. To further this I have supervised students, junior staff and technical instructors on wards and managed their patient case load also. I have delivered several in- service training presentations to a wide variety of the multidisciplinary team and provided teaching sessions to nurses and other health care professionals on the ward, including patients and their relatives in order to develop their skills and understanding. I have attended numerous case conferences in the hospital, liaised with all members of the multidisciplinary team (both in the hospital and external care providers) to contribute to the safest and most efficient discharge planning and highest quality of care possible for the client. I have exceptional communication skills and I am a very reliable and trustworthy worker; both independently and when working in a team. I have very good time management skills but I am still devoted to providing the most proficient advice and treatment possible to help improve client’s quality of life. I fully registered with AHPRA.
